For me, happiness is more of extraordinary fleeting moments of bliss in life that just happen unexpectedly. They are simply days or hours in life that just happen as gifts from God to look back on and allow us to balance our life on.

Sure having a job, and healthy kids, etc. seems to be a benchmark for most as having a “happy” life.

I do not think it is possible to define one earthly thing or happening that would suddenly make a person “happy” for a lifetime. I think “happy” things or things that create “happiness” are elusive…otherwise people wouldn’t be in a constant state of the pursuit of happiness.

Let's see what makes me happy:
Awaking each day to see I"m still alive and healthy and able to see (I have macular degeneration and treasure sight these days).
Making money in the stock market.
Having my children and grandchildren healthy, pleased with life and in my life.
Knowing I have a part in children learning (I teach reading and piano).
Feeling like I belong somewhere (I am a female Libertarian, mighty rare).

For me pleasure is when my heart is singing and the world appears full of sunshine and hope.

I used to tease with Michael H. that we were surfing the waves of consciousness and then I changed it to floating the thermals of consciousness. I now feel pretty confident that I am the master of my consciousness. That's been about a week and fortunately, I have not had any unusually significant road blocks to make me amend my statement. If I decide to float over the daily ups and downs of life, I've been really successful at staying connected and peaceful. Even elated.
